Woonona Stingrays (Nippers) Registrations 2008-2009 New members welcome! The “early bird” fee option has now passed. Applications for membership will be accepted up to and including 12 October 2008, however U8’s-U14’s must first complete the Proficiency Swim at Woonona pool between 8am-9am on 12 October 2008 as well as our usual registration requirements. A reminder that: * at least one parent/guardian must also join the surf club as an associate member and help out on nipper days; * anyone wishing to register after Sun, 12 October will be required to submit their application to the Committee for consideration. Nippers Starts Sun, 12 October 2008 - 9.30am Junior Sub-Committee Woonona Stingray numbers have increased substantially in recent years, and we’re grateful for the help of many parents during this time. However, it’s important that we have a more formal committee group to assist the Junior Chairperson in carrying out the tasks associated with our nipper program so we can provide the best in terms of surf education, water activities and general organisation. Most Illawarra SLS clubs have junior committees consisting of more than 5 members. The sub-committee will work as a team under the direction of the Junior Chairperson and include the minimum number of positions listed below. Please contact nippers@woononaslsc.com.au if you'd like to be involved and we can then plan a pre-season meeting to make sure everyone knows what to do and maybe even bounce some new ideas around for the coming season. - Point score officer - prepare point score sheets for each age group and collate scores fortnightly, prepare final scores at end of season and assist with end of season awards. - Carnival officer - publish dates and relevant information for upcoming carnivals, collect names of interested competitors for registration, co-ordinate officials and assist on carnival days to make sure nippers get to their events. " Beach set-up / pack up - set out event flags at correct distances for beach sprint and beach flags and make sure all equipment is available for each event. " Social activities - assist with planning and preparation of nippers Christmas party and end of season presentation. " Age Managers - one per age group who can regularly attend with the same age group each fortnight, marking attendances/absences, taking the group to/from the various nipper activities and recording the points for each child in their group, start various beach and surf races. " Age Manager Co-ordinator - gather age managers together immediately prior to start of nippers each fortnight to make sure each group has enough supervision and that each Age Manager knows how to conduct each event, hand out age manager shirts and helper vests and discuss the order of events and/or games for the day. " Surf Coach and Board Coach - Raelene Jones and Garry Hughes have once again volunteered to co-ordinate and conduct the surf events each fortnight. They'll discuss with the Patrol Captain on duty as to whether conditions are suitable for surf events that day or determine the best location for surf swim and board events and make sure there's enough water safety including IRB in place before an event is okay to start. We all want to watch our child or children having fun at nippers. However, if more parents are willing to help out, even in a small way, this will help everyone.
